This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless. Note : You will need an active Internet connection. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.

Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.

Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. If you wish to replace it you must do this within 14 days from date of purchase, and you must return the system to what was originally installed:īe sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive. 
If it still doesn't work then return it to the place of purchase for repair or replacement. Please refer to the link mentioned below for more information. If the drive does not recognized by your computer then you may need to reformat the drive in the compatible file system. The hard drive will work as a plug-n-play hard drive on the MAC computer.
A: Answer Hi MB, The WD My Passport Ultra for Mac comes pre-formatted for MAC OS. List of all WD firmware and software available for download. Plug in your WD My Passport’s USB cable into its Micro USB B port. Be sure to try the drive in each USB port on the computer if you have more than one. 
See if that fixes the problem with the USB port. Download and install OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 Combo Update.
